Luz Cubillos, DDS, Honored as
Volunteer Dentist of the Year for 2010
Mark Lisagor, DDS, President of the Dental Care Foundation has announced that Dr. Luz Cubillos has been honored with the inaugural Volunteer Dentist of the Year award in recognition and deep appreciation of her exceptional volunteer service to the community through the Foundations's programs in 2010. For the past four years, Dr. Cubillos has volunteered for all of the Foundations's free dental clinics. In 2010, she volunteered over 100 hours at over 13 different events. She has gone above and beyond the call by rearranging her patient schedule at the last minute to substitute for a dentist volunteer who had to cancel at the last minute. She has accepted referrals from the Foundation for children with dental emergencies regardless of ability to pay.
Dr. Cubillos practices in Oxnard, but was born a nd raised in Bogota, Columbia. She received her dental degree from the Columbian School of Dentistry in Bogota in 1981. She began her general dentistry practice in the United States in 1991. She has a history of volunteerism. She has volunteered with the Flying Samaritans for over six years. She was the director of the Oscar Romero clinic in downtown Los Angeles for several years. She has also volunteered with the Salvation Army and then with the Dental Care Foundation. She is currently procuring portable dental equipment for a volunteer project in Columbia.
Dr. Cubillos is an inspiration to us all with her selfless efforts on behalf of those with no access to dental care. It is with deep appreciation that the Foundation honors her with our first annual award.
